Weather in Koh Phangan Thailand

Thailand has very distinct weather patterns which are generally split into dry cool seasons and humid rainy seasons. But there is a geographical division as well. Phuket and the western islands have a rainy season which runs from April to October, whilst the Gulf of Thailand islands such as Koh Samui and Koh Phangan have a rainy season which occurs later in the year, The months for the higher rainfall on Phangan have been October, November and December. The dry weather returns in January and there is very low rainfall in the months of February through to June.

The low season is almost a misdemeanor in that although there may be some heavy rains and sometimes it is quite cloudy, there are also long periods of bright sunshine. The advantage of taking a break in the low season is the lower cost of hotels. At this time of year there are some seriously good bargains on the island. Swimming is also safe, especially in the deep set coves such as Chalaklum. Here the swimming is safe most of the year round.

If the island was to be split into good times to go and not so good, then the best would be late December through to June and the less than good, September to November. That leaves July and August when its more cloudy but not so much rain. The temperature on the island varies little, going from 23 C at its lowest to 29C at its highest.
